How the Workplace is Affected by Domestic Violence

Analysts from the Swedish Agency for Work Environment Expertise, in collaboration with The Swedish Gender Equality Agency and the Swedish Work Environment Authority, have developed a brochure for employers. It contains knowledge, guidance, advice, and inspiration on how to systematically address issues related to domestic violence.

The workplace should be a safe environment free from violence. However, it’s possible that violence can infiltrate the workplace through emails, phone calls, or even visits. Domestic violence can affect both work performance and relationships with colleagues. The workplace is a crucial arena for preventing and detecting violence.

The brochure is part of a larger effort. The Swedish Gender Equality Agency’s website offers support in the form of informational materials and training to provide managers and employees with knowledge, advice, and inspiration on how workplaces can systematically address issues related to domestic violence. It also provides facts on how domestic violence affects the workplace.

Liv Nilsson and Karin Sjöberg Forssberg, both analysts at Swedish Agency for Work Environment Expertise, have been involved in the development of the brochure. Karin explains how effective collaboration between government agencies can make a significant difference in systematic workplace safety:
